Thy Kingdom Come Chapter 2

The second chapter of “Thy Kingdom Come” focuses on God giving His law. The image reflects two central themes of how God makes Himself known to His people: in His Word and in physical elements. The flame is representative of ways God showed His presence to His people beginning in the time of Moses and continuing beyond. Specifically, God revealed Himself in fire on the mountain, in a pillar of cloud that led His people, and in His glory that filled the tabernacle. The writing in the center of the image is ancient Hebrew. The letters stand for “Y-A-H-W-E-H”, the name for God given to Moses in the burning bush. Yahweh means “I AM.” In this name, God shows the world He is the one true God who is and always will be. Thanks be to God for assuring His people of His presence through words, elements and in sending His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross. He continues to do so today in Word and Sacrament for us.
