Hope Lutheran Church Window

I designed this window for the fellowship space at Hope Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The design represents the glory of the resurrection of Christ. The construction of the window was completed by the Liturgical Art Center at Concordia University, Nebraska. The glass block at the bottom was pre-existing. Installed July 2011.

Advent Banners

These are the banners that will hang from Advent through the Epiphany season at Hope Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The top two images show the sanctuary banners which are 12 feet long and 2 feet wide. The bottom images are various views of the fellowship hall banners. Each banner in the fellowship hall is 27 feet long and 31 inches wide.

Pentecost Banners

These banners were made for Hope Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The green banners are used during the Pentecost growth season of the church year. The top image shows the banners which hang in the sanctuary. The following three images show the Pentecost banners which hang in the fellowship hall.

Easter Banners

These banners were made for Hope Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The banners will be hanging in the sanctuary and fellowship hall from Easter through Trinity Sunday. The (top) sanctuary banners are 12.5 feet long by 2 feet wide. The (lower) fellowship hall banners are each 27 feet long and 31 inches wide.

Lenten Banners

These banners are hanging in the fellowship hall at Hope Lutheran Church. The banners are each 27 feet long and 31 inches wide. This is the first of four sets of banners that will be created for the church. Lent 2010

Lenten Banners

These Lenten banners are hanging in the sanctuary of Hope Lutheran Church, Des Moines, Iowa. I created these banners with the help of volunteers from the church. Lent 2010.

Lenten Banner Making

I have finished the first of many banners for Hope Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The first set will be for the Lenten season. There will be a set of six corresponding banners used for Lent. The banners are being constructed with volunteer help from members of the congregation.

Messiah Lutheran Church Altar

This altar was made for Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. This altar is used in the church's secondary worship space. The altar is made of oak with the cross recessed from the the top and bottom panels. The altar is 10 feet long and 42 inches tall. The altar is on wheels for mobility and has storage space in the large bottom rectangles accessed from the back. 2004

Chapel Cross

These are images of various angles of the chapel cross at Concordia University Nebraska. I constructed the mosaic out of various burnt woods.

I constructed this cross out of wood in 2006 for the chapel at Concordia University, Nebraska. The cross is reversible; the dark side for lent and the mosaic side for the growth seasons.

Thy Kingdom Come Electronic Banner Chapter 9

The ninth chapter of Thy Kingdom Come depicts the return of Jesus and His establishing an eternal kingdom. Prominent in the banner is the symbol of a crown inlaid with a star, reflecting the coming of God's kingdom in the last days through Jesus. Emanating from the crown in the center of the banner are the golden streets, river of life, and walls of transparent gold of the new heavens and new earth as recorded in the book of Revelation. At the foundations of the walls are twelve sections of different jewels, each jewel representing one of the tribes of Israel. Above the crown is the rainbow, depicting the faithfulness of God to His promises. Though the rainbow image was hidden from sight in most of the previous banners, here it shines forth prominently, reflecting the fulfilled promises of God for all time.

Thy Kingdom Come Chapter 9

The ninth chapter of Thy Kingdom Come depicts the return of Jesus and His establishing an eternal kingdom. Prominent in the symbol is the outline of a crown, reflecting the coming of God's kingdom in the last days. In the center of the crown is the shape of a star, representing Jesus as the king and ruler of His kingdom. The star image is reminiscent of the symbol for chapter five of Thy Kingdom Come, where Jesus was represented in the star as God becoming man. In this symbol, however, Jesus is shown as it relates to His earthly mission and His triumphant victory over the power of sin, death, and the devil to make all things new.

Thy Kingdom Come Electronic Banner Chapter 8

The symbol for the eighth chapter of Thy Kingdom Come depicts God sending His people out in mission. The symbol in the center of the banner shows an open book and arrows, representing the Word of God open to the world in Jesus. It is through the work of the Holy Spirit that the salvation given by Jesus is accessible to mankind. This mission of God's people on earth, the Church, is now to share this Word of God revealed in Jesus to a thirsty and despairing world. The various cityscape silhouettes arranges on the banner show some of the regions and eras through which the Word of God spread, starting in the city of Jerusalem. His word then spread throughout the Greek and Roman worlds, through the Byzantine empire and middle ages, the Reformation and now to the modern world.

Thy Kingdom Come Chapter 8

The symbol for the eighth chapter of Thy Kingdom Come depicts God sending His people out in mission. The top half of the symbol shows and open book, representing the Word of God open to the world in Jesus. It is through the work of the Holy Spirit (this very living, active word of God) that the salvation given by Jesus if accessible to mankind. The bottom half of the image contains three arrows, showing how the mission of God's people on earth, the Church, is to share this Word of God revealed in Jesus to a thirsty and despairing world. Thanks be to God that, through trial, tribulation, and triumph that early Church carried the Scriptures and the hope of the Good News of Jesus to the Church today.

Thy Kingdom Come Electronic Banner Chapter 7

The banner for the seventh chapter of Thy Kingdom Come shows God's Son fulfilling the promise. The prominent features of the banner are he cross and the empty tomb in its center. It was upon a cross that the Son of God, Jesus, fulfilled the promise that God would destroy the power of sin, death, and the devil. This is represented by the cross crushing the head of the serpent, Satan, as promised in the Garden of Eden. The rest of the banner is divided in two, including the open tomb. The left side of the image is darkened, representing the humiliation of Christ in His coming to earth, suffering, and dying. The right side of the image, however, is bright, symbolizing Jesus' glorious resurrection from the grave. The rays of light shining from the open tomb represent God now giving the benefits of eternal life to all who believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.

The symbol for the seventh chapter of Thy Kingdom Come shows God's Son fulfilling the promise. The prominent feature of the symbol is the cross. It was upon a cross that the Son of God, Jesus, fulfilled the promise that God would destroy the power of sin, death, and the devil. The image is divided in two. The left side of the image is darkened, representing the humiliation of Christ in His coming to earth, suffering, and dying. The right side of the image however, is dominantly white, representing Jesus' Easter morning resurrection and glory. It is in this victorious resurrection that God gives the benefits of the promise, eternal life, to all who believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.

Thy Kingdom Come Electronic Banner Chapter 6

The banner for the sixth chapter of Thy Kingdom Come center on God empowering and sending His Son into ministry. Dominant in the symbol is the image of a white dove, representative of the Holy Spirit. The water in the center of the image is reminiscent of both the waters of baptism and the Sea of Galilee where the disciples worked and lived. The Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus during His baptism, anointing Jesus as a servant of all mankind and preparing Jesus for the long, difficult road to the cross. The Holy Spirit also sent Jesus into the wilderness to face the temptations of Satan, and triumph over them, so that Jesus could overcome the power of sin over creation for all time. The plateaus in the background of the banner show this bleak wilderness. The Spirit also came upon the Church on earth to continue the disciples' mission of being fishers of men in Jesus' name, as symbolized by the net dominating the foreground of the banner.

The symbol for the sixth chapter of Thy Kingdom Come centers on God empowering and sending His Son into ministry. The Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus during His baptism, anointing Jesus as a servant of all mankind and preparing Jesus for the long, difficult road to the cross. The Holy Spirit also sent Jesus into the wilderness to face the temptations of Satan, and triumph over them, so that Jesus could overcome the power of sin over creation for all time. This same Spirit also came upon the Church on earth to continue the disciples' mission of being fishers of men in Jesus' name.

Thy Kingdom Come Electronic Banner Chapter 5

The banner for the fifth chapter of Thy Kingdom Come depicts God sending His Son into the world. The smoke and fire at the top of the banner show the glory of God in heaven, separated in relationship from mankind because of sin. The rays of the rainbow, however, represent the rainbow seen throughout the entire Thy Kingdom Come series symbolizing God's steadfast commitment to His promised to save His people. The rainbow, the fulfillment of the promise given to Noah manifested in the Christ child.
